Marcella Echavarria flows back to us again this week like the Pearl River, like earthy silk in the wind. She brings with her the mudsilk of Noir, her tribute to 2,500 years of union among elemental forces: river mud, wild silkworms and patient hands.
Marcella has created a special collection for Living Threads this year.
“The silhouettes remain simple,” Marcella explains, “- blouses, tunics, kimonos - but now they carry a new kind of texture. Patchwork upon patchwork, all in tone-on-tone, more felt than seen, like whispers layered on whispers—each panel cut by hand, each seam a decision. Quiet, generous, easy to live in.”
“I’m drawn to techniques that slow us down, quiet celebrations of ancient knowledge—where the process is not just visible, but sacred. It’s clothing that doesn’t speak loudly, but stays with you. Like a scent. Like a memory. It’s soft, but not fragile. Feminine, but not decorative. It feels like a second skin—shaped by time, water, and earth.”
If you’ve ever worn mudsilk, then you know that these words brush upon the truth of this most rare of cloths. This week we invite you to come immerse yourself in the experience.
Marcella, the Living Threads team and fabric that is memory made visible await you.
